Indian govt official directed Sikh separatist's assassination plot in US

In a shocking revelation, the United States Department of Justice has accused an Indian government official of orchestrating a plot to assassinate a Sikh separatist on American soil.

The indictment, unsealed on Wednesday, alleges that Nikhil Gupta, 52, conspired with an Indian government official to kill the unnamed separatist leader, who is a vocal critic of the Indian government and advocates for the secession of India's Punjab state.

The plot was reportedly foiled by the U.
S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which received a tip about the assassination plan in June 2023. According to the indictment, Gupta allegedly met with undercover DEA agents posing as hitmen and discussed the details of the assassination, including the target's whereabouts and the payment for the killing.

The news of the assassination plot has sent shockwaves through the Sikh community and has raised serious concerns about the Indian government's involvement in extrajudicial killings. Sikh separatist groups have long accused the Indian government of using illegal means to silence its critics, and this latest incident is likely to further fuel these tensions.

The Indian government has

denied any involvement in the assassination plot, calling it "a baseless allegation." However, the U.S. government has maintained that it has "credible evidence" to support its charges against Gupta. The incident has also strained relations between the United States and India, with U.S. officials calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The assassination plot highlights the dangers of extrajudicial killings and the need for governments to uphold the rule of law. The use of violence to silence dissent is never justified, and it is important to bring those responsible for such actions to justice.
